Best USB-C Cables: What Actually Matters

Published March 5, 2026 · Buying Guide

A cheap cable can bottleneck a great charger — or fail after a month. USB-C cables look identical but perform very differently. Here's what to check so you buy once and buy right.

1. Power rating (wattage)

Cables are rated for how much power they can safely carry. A cable rated for only 15W will charge your laptop slowly no matter how good your charger is.

2. Data speed

If you only charge, any cable works. If you transfer files or connect a display, check the data spec — USB 2.0 (480 Mbps) is fine for charging, while USB 3.x is much faster for data.

3. Build quality

4. Length

Shorter cables (1–1.2m) charge slightly more efficiently and are tidier on a desk; longer cables (2m) are better for the couch or bed. Have one of each.

Our pick

The C20-03 USB-C to USB-C 60W cable hits the sweet spot: braided, aluminium connectors, 60W fast charge and a handy 1.2m length.
